Anastasia was born in 1978 in the city of Kaluga, south of Moscow. She studied architecture at the Ioganson Art School in St Petersburg and then continued her studies in the Graphics department of the Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with honours in 2002. She won a special government grant Muses of St Petersburg in 2001.
She became a member of the Union of Artists in 2003. Her work has recently been taken into the new museum of contemporary art in St Petersburg, ERARTA, following a major national competition to identify the finest artists in Russia. Her work is based on real places from which she abstracts the formal monumental shapes that make her paintings so distinctive.
Andrei Sklarenko was born in 1963 and studied at the Orel College of Art, graduating in 1982. He was accepted as a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg in 1987 and graduated with an honours degree in 1993.
His work has been shown regularly in the autumn exhibitions at the Academy. In addition he has had many exhibitions elsewhere in Russia and has been frequently shown in Berlin and Hamburg, as well as in Britain and elsewhere in Europe. Since 1992 he has been a member of the St Petersburg Fellowship of Free Painters. He is one of the members of the group of painters known as The Bridge. Their aim is to open lines of communication between their work and the viewer, wanting to make their paintings accessible and enjoyable to the onlooker.
Aurel was born in 1960 in the village of Teleneshty in Moldova. His artistic talent was noticed while he was still a child and he was sent to special art school from 1973 until 1976.
In 1984 he continued his art studies at the Art School in Odessa for three years. In 1989 he was accepted as a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg, graduating with honours in 1994.
He works mainly in oil, exploring the colour of sunlight and shadows in his landscapes. The play of light and reflections has always been an inspiration for him since his earliest days as he tries to capture the special beauty and atmosphere of the places he paints. His figures are shown to be at one with their surroundings creating a harmonious and pleasing whole. Aurel has exhibited regularly in St Petersburg and other parts of Russia, as well as in Germany.
Elena was born in 1968 in Slantsy, near the border with Estonia. Her family moved to St Petersburg and she attended the art school attached to the Academy of Fine Arts until 1986. She was accepted as a student at the Academy itself, and graduated from the Graphics Department in 1992.From 1989 she has had work accepted by several different publishers in St Petersburg and now has a very successful career as a book illustrator. Her latest commission is for the design and illustration of a Russian translation of Lewis Carroll’s own young children’s version of Alice in Wonderland. In 1995 she became a member of the Russian Union of Artists.Between 1995 and 1999 she took part in exhibitions in Germany, France and Switzerland. In 1999 her work was awarded the ‘best in show’ prize by visitor ballot at the International New Watercolours Biennale in Germany. Subsequently she had one-woman shows of her watercolours in Germany and St Petersburg. Her work is regularly exhibited in St Petersburg as well as being featured in shows at several galleries in England where she has been very well received. On her last visit to England in 2003 she appeared with examples of her work on the TV arts programme for the Oxford region.Her work is in private collections in Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Germany, Britain and USA, as well as Russia.
